What are the important things one should check before you buy a camera from a grey market?

for canon powershot s2 IS. what are the things to verify.

Could be a bad or fake battery. Replacing it will set you back 50-708 bucks. I would also check for scratches on the lens, and lcd. Working cable ports would also be important to check out.

Grey sets may not differ in look and function from an authorized import (but they can...); and the manufacturers' warranty is usually VOIDed. If warranty is offered, it may be from the shop directly and my have reduced span or benefits. Professional lens repair, like for the Canon EF L series that must go to Canon's Professional Service, are usually disqualified if grey market.
