and noticed that my cat had pooped outside his litter box, I was scooping up his poop and notice a little bit of mucous type fluid in his stool as it had a bit of blood in it not much but noticable that is what caught my attention, does anyone think this is serious?? Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated, my cat does not seem to be ill and he is rather energetic.

My cat had the same problem and I freaked out and took him to the vet. He had colitis, and the vet gave us an antibiotic and it cleared up the infection that was causing his problems.
He too seemed fine and perky except for the blood in his stool.

this is a newsgroup you can subscribe to for free through your outlook or outlook express. TONS of info on nothing but cats!!

The cat may have eaten something that didnt agree with it. A little blood in the mucous isnt something to be alarmed about, but you should keep a close eye on you cat incase the blood gets worse, or you see any behavior changes.
If you notice blood on its rectum, or puffiness around it, it may have an infected anal gland. Too many options to speculate.
if in doubt, take the cat to the vet.

Sometimes my cats poop in the pan and when they try to cover it they sometimes make it fall outside the pan. As for the mucous I would let the vet know, it may be nothing.

He may have gotten a little constipated because you were gone and he was upset-going outside the box also supports this. I'd keep an eye on him and his stools-if it continues the vet of course but if he feels OK,eats, plays etc. I wouldn't worry too much right now.

it could be that your cat had difficulty getting his poop out so he strained a little which caused blood in his stool this happened to one of my cats before just keep an eye on him and make sure this isnt happening on a regular basis and by the way it wouldnt hurt to give him a teaspoon of mineral oil once or twice a week to help him move his bowels easier...

Yes this is serious, cats are very good at hiding their ailments. Better you should get him in A.S.A.P. Their systems are so small, and something that seems like it may not be a big deal,if left untreated can be life threatening. You're kitty's mom, please take him to the vet. GOOD LUCK

It sounds like your cat may have injested something, it shouldn't have, the cat should not have those symtoms, see a Vet.

maybe stress from your absence? Not really sure. Maybe call a vetrinarian just to be sure. They can tell you weather or not it is serious!
