The idea of being saved by grace alone is exactly why I am not a Christian. I believe that what we do and how we treat each other in this life matters deeply. I believe that any God who cares only about our relationship with Him and not our relationships with other people--which is the implication of being forgiven and saved by grace alone, not by deeds--is deeply selfish and not worthy of my worship.
I understand that this doctrine arose from need, during the Reformation--doing "good deeds" had morphed into giving money to priests, and that had to be done away with. However, similarly, the emphasis on faith alone has created a church where people are obsessed with their own salvation and unwilling to help their fellow man. Religion has become little more than self-help.

I do agree with you that we are saved and redeemed by grace and grace alone, and any and all Christian doctrines should conform to the standards set forth in the Bible and the Bible only. A lot of churches adhere to this but there are some who do not. I have never heard of this "Book of Concord" that you speak of. I would hae to read throught it to decide if it follows Biblical doctrine.

I can agree with u partly knowing that yes we are saved by grace, we are living by Grace? we shall go to heaven by Grace in that u are right. But talking about the Lutheran doctrine no. God said you should not judge anybody because every religion says we are the only one we are worshipping the true God. No one knows so watch out.

Well, they have some things right. I heard on a PBS radio commercial that the Lutherans are building a lot of Habitat for Humanity houses. I'm impressed. A friend is a Lutheran Minister and he's cool. Went to the church and liked it almost as much as the Unitarian Universalism church. They too are building Habitat homes.
I'm not a practicing anything. Practice was over when I was a kid. Now I'm playing for real, no more practice.
The game is: By their works you will know them.
Doctrine is a facade for scumbags like Kenny Boy Lay and Hitler.
We watch you, we know who you are.

all the pontification approximately Lutheranism, in thought, might nicely be modern-day in "The Lutheran e book of brotherly love." The doctrinal positions of Lutheran church homes at the instant are not uniform through fact the e book of brotherly love does not carry the comparable place in all Lutheran church homes. One article of religion that became placed interior the e book of brotherly love is "the perpetual virginity of Mary." in the present day this show fact has been decreased to a footnote. you may additionally prefer to take a inspect "The Augsburg Confession." (discovered interior the e book of brotherly love, yet in addition obtainable from different components.) the biggest distinction is Communion. Roman Catholics (and Orthodox Christians) have faith in "transubstantiation" or the bread and wine replace into the actually physique and blood of Christ. Lutherans have faith in "consubstantiation" or the physique and blood of Christ are "in with and decrease than" the bread and wine. Many different Protestants see the bread and wine as mere symbolism. Lutherans basically have 2 sacraments: communion and baptism. .

You had me agreeing for the most part until this part:
"the Holy Bible as they are correctly explained and taught in the Book of Concord."
Are you not able to read the Scriptures on your own? What if the person "explaining them correctly" is in error? Do you accept what they say without question, or do you check it out for yourself? I am sorry, but the idea that someone needs to explain the Scriptures correctly to me sounds a lot like Mormonism, JW's and Catholicism. I am not a child, I do not need someone explaining them correctly to me, I am perfectly able to read the Scriptures, seek out commentaries and other sources to help with more difficult passages, and use Hebrew and Greek lexicons. And, I have many brothers and sisters in Christ around me who are more than willing to straighten me out if my theology is amiss. I would be very leery of someone who thinks that you are not intelligent enough or spiritual enough to understand God's word.

You have it wrong. Saved by grace?
"Consider all of the people who live in the remote regions of the world who have never even heard the "gospel" of Jesus Christ. Consider the people who have naturally adhered to the religion of their parents and nation as they had been taught to do since birth. If we are to believe the Christians, all of these people will perish in the eternal fire for not believing in Jesus. It does not matter how just, kind, and generous they have been with their fellow humans during their lifetime: if they do not accept the gospel of Jesus, they are condemned. No just God would ever judge a man by his beliefs rather than his actions."

Lutherans can't have it right...even Martin Luther himself did not intend for protestantism to morph into what it is today. Your own denomination, although named for him, does not believe the same as he did.
Did you know that Martin Luther, even after being excommunicated from the Catholic Church, still saw himself as "Catholic" in his basic beliefs. He even retained a strong veneration for the Virgin Mary through Marian devotion practices and the Rosary.
Have you ever read his 95 Thesis and know what was really going on in his head and then between him and the Church? What has developed from those beginning days of the Protestant Reformation is nothing close to what he was trying to accomplish.

Lutherans and Christians are one in the same. As for having it "right" - no one knows the answer to that. Only He knows. He'll be sure to let us know if and when He ever comes back here.

I agree with you...and we are only saved through grace, by faith..not of our own good deeds..but it is only by the grace of God and the shed blood of His Son Jesus Christ.
