I wouldn't say it's become "mainstream." Probably just people being more comfortable coming out because of its exposure in the media. But then again, one could argue that people are just turning to some kind of unnatural lust, and some would argue that they were born with it.

Mainstream. Other than a few Native societies, I don't think homos have been the majority in any society.
Homosexuality is mostly frowned on because it is incapable of producing more children who can labor on the farm.

Well basically it was accepted, see what had happened is that so many people reacted so terribly to homosexuality that people started to view it like they view racism, sooo homosexuals became looked upon as victims, which in a sense they were, but rather than jus being victims they shud b looked on as people that need help, see because homosexuality is a sin, its unatural, its an abomination, therefore ppl who suffer frm it need help, but rather than gifve them the help that they really needed people just accepted it an added it too evfery day life and society. That and its very big in hollywood and pop culture...
