My gf keeps getting upset cuz i tell her once ppl get married its all downhill, I told her i am not ready for marriage and won't be ready for at least another 3-5 years so, why the hell is pressuring me? She knows i am not ready, and even in 5 years...who knows how things will change anyway? So i don't see whats the rush in getting married? I mean we have only been dating for 6 yrs...why not wait a few more years to see if i wanna get married or not...by then i am sure i will figure things out. How do i get her off my case about getting married?

But is marriage really necessary? Isn't it just a piece of paper, a financial and legal agreement that binds two people by contract?

Once you get married it's all downhill!!!

With that line of thinking you will go far in life. Do your commitment, rather lack of commitment problems end there? Or do they as I suspect affect your life as a whole.

Marriage is no different than any other relationship in life that you want to succeed at, whether it is in a personal or professional sense. It takes work to grow any relationship and giving up on the relationship before its even started is your way of dealing with it.

Do your girlfriend a huge favor, end your relationship now and save her the grief of loving someone that cannot or will not return the same type of love and commitment you are receiving from her. She deserves better than to be strung along for six years and possibly another 3-5 years before you dump her for another woman or possibly a girl...a teeny bop-per that will put up with your line of BS.

She must really love you, I mean dating for ONLY six years and putting up with your attitude. Get a LIFE pal, and let her move onto someone who deserves a wife like she will make.

Dude your could be on the way out! If you have been dating for 6 years and you are not committed to you feelings by now you may never be. What holding you back? Age? School? a career perhaps?
Give a little more detail into what the reasons are for not getting married. I have been married for 19 years and my relationship grows stronger every day. But I don't have any reason that it shouldn't. A relationship is give and take, not just give and not just take. The old saying you don't know what you got until it's gone should ring some bells here.

You can't. A women wants that security, because when your in a relationship most women are preparing for marriage, on the other hand your wasting her time. She basically wants to know where the relationship is going. You said 3-5 years maybe she don't want to wait that long. Can you see your self with out her? If you said no marry her. If you can then let her be on her way.

You don't love her, leave her now so she can have the opportunity to know a better guy.
A guy that is going to give her everything not just bad sex
(sex that is not in a marriage)

well 6 years is a long time. but tell her how much you love her. and that you just need time to make the relationship a lifetime commitment or something

if she respects that then the marriage will do well

the only thing you can do is be honest with her and explain that you DO care about her, but it is because you care that you do not want to rush into it.....

if she respects you, then she should understand.
