I've been talking to my kids about sex, periods, etc. since they were about 4 & 5. Always age appropriate stuff, of course - answering questions they had (why are boy parts different?, why do you bleed from where you pee?). Kids have inquisitive minds and I always been very open and honest with everything they have asked. Now that they are 9 & 10, they feel free to talk to me about anything, knowing they will get an honest answer and not be judged by their questions.

Just let her know you will talk if she wants to. You can't force her. I had a good conversation with my 10 year old daughter when she walked in on my hubby and me in the middle of the night while we were...well, in an embarrassing situation. The next day she said "mom, you and dad were "doing it", right?" we had a good talk and now that she is 14 she asks me about all kind of things she hears at school.
