Because it isn't about human rights at all. There is no human right to help yourself to the wealth of your neighbor. This nation is wealthy because the citizens of this nation have built a system that is conducive to the creation of wealth.
The illegals, and the citizens of Mexico who actully do have the national pride to remain in their country, have every right, however, to change their system to make it more friendly toward wealth creation. That means the rule of law, an independent judiciary, an end to corruption, respect for individual rights, a strong system of property rights, and express limits on government power. Until they realize that, and implement those elements of good government, they will remain poor. They have so right, however, to take from others what they are not willing to make for themselves.

Bridget: Being human doesn't resolve root causes. Sure, it's great to put water in the desert, squirrel illegals away in strip-mall churches, and hand out free food, but does that ever address the root cause? No, that only prolongs it and makes it more entrenched. Alleviating the effects of the problems in Mexico only does a greater disservice to those still there. Humanitarianism is great, but blindly committed, it can be more harmful than good. Just look at the negative effect that indiscriminate "aid" has had on the development of Africa.

You spoke wisely.
In addition, it is called a 'human rights' issue by Leftists pushing to build a power base of illegal immigrants. It is simple use of language to dissuade reasonable argument. After all, you can't argue against someone's 'human rights'.
Leftists are masters of use of language to their advantage. They will redefine as needed to manipulate the conversation. Orwell warned of this.

Well stated. Think about this: if President Bush's plan to legalize the illegal immigrants passes, when they become American citizens, who will pick the chile for $.70 a bushel? who will pick onions? who will work in the feed yards and meat packers? If the plan passes as proposed, we will be back where we are now, and where we were 20 years ago when President Reagan did something similar. Does anyone else see a pattern here? Yes, conditions in Mexico are horrible, and yes, those conditions need to change, but if the current rate of illegal immigration continues, we will not be able to bear it economically. We have plenty of AMERICANS here who are unable to support themselves and use the social programs in place. We do not have the resources to support everyone who wishes to come to the US. This is not a race issue, it is an issue of not abiding by the law.

The way you state it, you sound like our "neighbors" are freeloaders. While yes, some are, it is not restricted to just illegal immigrants. A good percentage of people (yes, citizens included) are taking advantage of it. Yet we don't even focus on our own citizens, we focus on the others. Many of those whom are actually hard working and trying to indeed help themselves, not by living off the wealth in this country, but by actually working hard. If you argue, "well they can work hard in their OWN country", the truth of the matter is, many who come here illegally can't. I am against illegal immigration, however, I do believe in my religion over the law, which would want me to treat these people with respect. While illegal immigration should be simply (its wrong), its not and I think a big factor in that is because they are treated like they are not even human! That is what has made this into a human rights issue.

There could be some distinctive factors: a million) They themselves at one time have been unlawful immigrants. So, they have first-hand relish as to the struggles of immigrants and desire to look their fellow "countrymen" make something of their lives as that they have been at last equipped to. 2) they have friends or relatives that are unlawful immigrants. 3) they are humanitarians/ activists. Edit: isn't it exciting? some human beings have the style of useful hatred for immigrants, that they are going to truthfully grant a "thumbs down" purely for answering a question immediately - even with the actuality that there is not any opinion in it the two attitude and it only states some available strategies to the question.

You make some thoughtful arguments....I appreciate that....
Its not that cut and dry....Mexico is really more of a socialist country...It is not a free democracy, as it is here....The poor are truly powerless and with no voice...The country is run by elites and it is rather simplistic to think poor indigent Mexicans can change their country and make a difference....Believe me, they do have national pride, but no representation....The only way for change is through a revolution or civil war....Mexicans by nature are pacifists...Its a vicious cycle they have no control over....
Mexicans are not coming here, to take your wealth....They are coming to better their lives and not at the expense of your wealth....They do come from a third world country....They are our neighbors, and we don't owe them anything, of course, but is it humane to turn these people away because they are not legal, and mostly come here for a better life? Many come here and build homes, farm, cleaning, landscaping, etc etc etc....Why do you think they are out to take your wealth? Illegals have been coming for generations and have also helped build this country...
For me it is not so cut and dry....If these people were legalized and required to pay into social security would that make you happy? Isn't that waht you want for them to pay their way here?

The civil war did work for us but Mexico is much more complicated..
The U.S started Fresh, with no previous rule from another country..
Mexico was ruled by Spain and France... the Independence wars were costly for Mexico...
Mexico was also dictated by the harsh Porfirio Diaz, poverty increase when he ruled...
Mexico does not need a revolution. When Fox was in power, the economy went up ...
They just need to industrialize more and toughen up on crime....
Many drug-dealers are making prices go up while workers make the same amount of money.... That's when they turn North...

Illegal immigration is worst for a any nation, hence Queen of England proclaimed those who are employing illegal immigrants in their firm they will be fined upto 2000 Pounds like that. Stingent meaassures may reduce the level of impact.

I think it turns into a human rights issue for various reasons:
1)Some people are against any immigration, period. Or perhaps just against Mexican or Latino immigration. Listen to many of the arguments against illegals, and the person is (unintentionally, sometimes) arguing against legal immigration, too.
2)Illegal aliens residing here are obviously going to spin the issue to give them the best possible chance of improving their cause.
3)Many illegals mistakenly (but also sometimes correctly) assume that Americans fight against them only out of racism or bigotry, and they therefore see this as an issue of human rights.

You got it right. The ones supporting illegal immigrants are trying to twist the perception of the issue (the most glaring and ridiculous strategy is equating "immigrants" with "illegal immigrants" and making Americans feel that if they are against illegals they are against all immigrants.) IMO illegal immigration it's a law and order issue pure and simple. The immigration laws are there for a reason: to protect our citizens and resources. Anyone who violates them is a lawbreaker. And anyone who forges documents and steals SSN's is a bona fide criminal who should be thrown in jail and deported.
In a perfect world we could throw open the borders, support everyone who comes here, suffer no increase in crime, no overpopulation, no stress on the environment, no economic woes. But that is not the case in the real world.

your right its not, its a legal issue, they are committing a crime that they should be punished for, they have no rights because they aren't American citizens, only American citizens have rights in America. of course they do have a few basic human rights but they are ones that everyone should have no matter where they are. its so ridiculous! i don't understand how someone could support what they are doing!
