Did he just start using deodorant? If he did, or if he has a new kind, try switching brands. My husband has the same thing happen to him when he uses certain brands.

The very high heat and bad air this summer have caused a lot of skin outbreaks like the one you describe. For home treatment, try removing all possible irritants. One is soap. He should wash with baby wash or colloidal oatmeal powder instead of soap, rinse very well, and dry very thoroughly but without hard rubbing. Cool baths or showers are good, hot ones will make the irritation worse. Sleeping shirtless in a cool room will help. His shirts and undershirts should be washed with one of those less allergenic detergents like All Clear/Free and double-rinsed. Staying in cool environments as much as possible and avoiding activities that make him sweat should help too. If he uses deodorant, he should skip it until his skin calms down. A wonderful product for irritated skin is Columbia Antiseptic Powder, which has some boric acid in it to nip beginning infections in the bud. The problem with this good stuff is that it's not available everywhere. You can buy it in some pharmacies in Vermont, through the Vermont Country Store's website, or, often, on eBay. I have turned off many a bothersome skin flare with it. Any greasy or sticky ointment is NOT a good idea because it may cause additional irritation, get an allergic reaction going, or seal in bacteria and promote an infection.
And, of course, there's no use taking chances with a kid - if he has even a little fever or malaise, he should go straight to his pediatrician. If he has no fever or malaise but does not get relief promptly with careful home treatment, the same caution applies: a doctor visit is in order. Good luck, I hope he'll be feeling better soon.

this could be the first symptoms of anaphalaytic shock, which is cumulative and can kill. I would put some dry power to help cool them off and absorb the sweat and haul him off the the DR first thing. This can be caused by bee stings, snake bites all sorts of things. Can be checked usually with a simple blood test

Has he been playing with the deodorant? This could cause a mild chemical burn on tender skin. Or has he changed brands? Other than that, it could just be gaulded. Treat with corn starch.

It's probably a heat rash, I had one in my armpits last summer, VERY painful. Put corn starch on it, not ointment.

He may be allergic to deordorant, or he may have heat rash. Benadryl or cortaid might help. If it doesn't improve in a day, see a doctor.
