I think one should be baptized twice in one's lifetime. Once as a baby as part of a family or community based celebration, and then again as a cognizant adult in a more private or personal setting perhaps with only one's pastor.

llbm3,
Oh, these answers you are getting!

You can get baptised by water 365 days a years. It's ritualistic symbolism. One of the very few that I agree with.

The baptism of the Spirit of God happens once, and God controls how many times that happens. There is scripture to back up the only once idea.

Baptism by water.
Metaphorically speaking:
The water is the Earth, you are buried in it as you are dunked in. You are resurrected as you are pulled out.

The dunking is a symbol of death. The raising is of the Spirit of Life. It is a testimony of you dying to yourself, and then being quickened by the Spirit of God. You are "Born Again." And there is your testimony that you are born to God through Christ.

Once is enough. It is not a sacrament nor does it bring salvation. It is a public proclamation of your faith. You go under the water to signify death to the old life (self) and rise up out of the water to signify new life in Christ.

Only one water baptism is needed, but it has to be a personal choice so infant baptism doesnt really count...

There's also the baptism of the Holy Spirit....

haha just once. Baptism is to wash away our origninal sin that everyone has. (When Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit). It's one of the reasons Jesus was born, to save us from original sin.
