I felt like running out of there, but opted to stay because it would have been rude. I was literally shaking and felt sick. My husband liked some of the things about it. I felt it was almost cult like and people were too pushy. I already believe in God, I am saved yet they were pushing baptisim again.

I like the feeling of a small church, when you can really get to know people. I don't want to go there feeling like the people there are above the rest of us. Ilike feeling that they are human too. I like fellowship, but I don't like the raise your bible and yell and faint type church. I don't want a hypocrytical pastor. I want a pastor that can admit he makes mistakes too and that he is not above everyone. I like a pastor who can make jokes and who enjoy's being a pastor.

Last Sun., my Mom and I visited a new Church in a nearby neighborhood just for support.
They use microphones and the music was so loud it was unbelievable.
We did enjoy the young minister that preached and his Dad who is the Pastor use to sing with my brother in a quartet.
As it is with most young people nowdays, they have been raised on a fast pace where everything is Sesame Street like. I feel this is the group they are trying to reach. You have to hold their attention every minute, not giving them time to think. Very upbeat.
As older Christian I feel as you do, but my Mom likes her big, big Church. I just like to know everyone. Even in a hugh Church there is still the small faithful ones that make up the small Church.
People who have never been around where there is slaying in the Spirit where some pass out find that hard to take. It does not matter to me. I have been in snake handling Churches too, but I hate snakes...lol...I also do not speak in tongues but I do not knock who do. I would not belong to a Church that did.
There is a place for you, just keep going somewhere and being faithful to God.
But on the other hand I could never hate a church service for I was being obedient to God no matter where I went. I always got the message He wanted me to get.

I am sorry that you felt that way. Obviously if you felt uncomfortable there, you should not keep attending. Church should be a place you DO feel comfortable enough so that you CAN enjoy worship and get fed by the Holy Spirit. But it's up to you. I once went to this church where I live and they weren't welcoming. So I felt that it wasn't a church I would go to. I am still looking but trust what God tells you. Ask Him what you should do and go with what he tells you. What you feel in your heart. But I know how you feel. It is difficult some times. well take care, God Bless, and I hope that you do find a church that you feel comfortable in/with.

Sure. Church is people. We don't like all people or all things people do. It's natural not to like all churches and all things churches.
There are a lot of areas of church life - from the way we worship to what we do to tell the story to others here and overseas. One or more of these is bound to differ from our viewpoint.
Get where your heart feels comfortable, but don't quit on the journey.

Yes! Was it the Institute of Divine Metaphysical Research where they believe in Yahweh?

llbm3,
What do you want from a church? What is it that a 'church' is supposed to do? What is it that a church isn't supposed to do?

Can you answer those questions? I think that they would help you fond out what it is you are looking for. Some answers only reveal that we are short fallen, and we need to die to ourselves.
