There is no conversion to be done. If you simply dont beleive in any God, then you are automatically regarded as an athiest. Being an athiest doesn't mean that you are part of a cult or group so there are no rules to follow. Although it doesn't stop you from being a good person.

You can just say you are an atheist. Very easy. You can also be a non-practicing buddhist, wich means you believe in the general idea, just not the practices. Or an agnostic which means you belive in God or a life force, just not in organized religion. You should also prepare yourself with resons that you are the religion or lack there of that you choose. You will be bombarded with people who do not really understand religion or the teachings, but feel the need to attack you for your choice. Good luck on your journey.

Try to be logical about it. Figure out what happened on the Galapagos Islands and if the evolution theory could be true. Than look around, do you truely believe there is a meaning to all what is around you? And would you be able to change the world (for the better!) by religion? You don't have to convert or anything, just let it go. Take good care and be kind to others! That is not a budhism or christian thing to do, it just humane.

There is no "converting" to atheism. You really just decide. Atheism means not believing in any kind of gods or goddesses. You can still be spiritual, and believe in the supernatural, etc. if you do believe in that now.

You do not need to show that you are a "real" atheist; it is in your heart and brain.

Also, there is no rule that you have to stick with it, so if you find that you are a theist after all, then it's okay.

Good luck!

If you lack a belief in any god, or if you believe that there is no god (subtle difference there), then you are an atheist. It's not a club. You can be both Buddhist and atheist.

The notion that I see in these answers that atheists "believe in nothing," is ridiculous. The ONLY requirement to be an atheist is to not believe in God. Period.

Atheists can believe in an afterlife, ESP, even Santa Claus... and so long as they don't believe in a god, they are still atheists. It just so happens that most atheists have become atheists by thinking rationally, and therefore many don't believe in supernatural ideas.

an atheist does not at all believes in God. but you know, i don't think being an atheist will help you at all. religion is nothing, dude! but God is everything. if you want to make something out of your life, i say come to God and repent! it would be the best way. God is the only answer. accept Him as your personal Lord and Savior, turn away from sin and God will help you find your way.

There will be a book coming out in October I believe called "The God Delusion" by Prof. Richard Dawkins where he discusses all religion and how they are harmful to people.

Give it a read and see what you think.

There's no real big change. All it is is a change of perspective. That's what's so cool about not believing in a higher being: you start believing in yourself to take control of your life. Just start thinking of things in a much more rational way. As Yoda said, "You must unlearn what you have learned."

Atheism is simply not believing in any god. There is no such thing as converting to it.

If you don't believe in god, you're already an atheist. That's all there is to it.

If you want to be a militant atheist, you can debate christians on the internet and write books/blogs about how religion is bad for humanity. But it's not really necessary.
