An optimist is someone who chooses to see a situation from the positive aspect.
You could get to a stoplight and it could be red. The pessimist might say something like, "why are all the lights red?" as if the world were against them. An optimist might say, "Thank goodness for the red light. It gives me a moment to reflect and get my thoughts together." or "Whew, I was hoping for a moment to get my directions/cell phone, etc out."
Hope that helps!

Like someone said only I will complete the popular phrase; An optimist is someone who sees the glass half full in contrast with the pessimist; he sees the glass half empty.
See the difference? :<]
