My daughter likes to draw too and she always draws whats most important to her at that very moment, be it mom, dad or one of our dogs. Sound normal to me. As long as she is normal in the rest of her development, I don't think you have anything to worry about. Just enjoy what she draws for you now because our little girls grow so fast. Soon they will be all about boys and we will be wishing for those beautiful drawings of the past! :)

Yes! more than likely, this is all she knows. That is her world, until she starts school. Right now she doesn't have that much to draw about.
Plus kids always draw their families. When she gets to school, they'll encourage her to draw her family. At least she'll have some experience.

I am not an artist, but I was young, I like to draw comics, and this developed my interest in other area, such as water colour when I grow up. When we talk about drawing, most important is the interest. So, no matter what she had drawn, so long she is interested with, it's perfectly alright.

Absolutely! When children at the age of 5 draw, they are responding to an emotional need to express what is important in THEIR world. Family members, home and immediate surroundings are viewed from an emotional standpoint, hence, we sometimes can see drawings where of a huge mother standing next to a smaller daughter and a minuscule father figure in the case of an overbearing mother-weak father family dynamics. Our children view us from their unique perception of what we, or other family members that are important to them mean in their lives. My suggestion is for you to let her draw, paint, sculpt using every and all the materials that you can provide her. These do not need to be expensive, as you can create wonderful drawings even on sand, can draw with charcoal, ink, crayons, food coloring, colored sawdust, salt, shaving cream, chalk...A child's imagination knows no limits. At your daughter's age, it is important to express what she feel about things rather than trying to achieve photographic realism. To expect a child to produce a drawing by an adult's viewpoint is unrealistic, and the pressure to "perform" can hamper natural development and stifle creativity. Please sit back and enjoy your daughter's enthusiastic, fresh and unique perception of her surroundings.

Yes. It is typical of a five year old girl to draw only that.

She draws what she knows. These are what she knows. She's not old enough to know and draw other things.

she is still hesitating who and what to draw and so decided to draw the familiar faces.
it will take a while before she decides to draw other things especially if she sees what other people have drawn.

If the pictures show herself as being happy with her family then it's good. Her family is her world right now. This is normal.
