My puppy has a little bump on her belly and I was wondering if it was because of an umbilical cord.

it could be a little hernia, very easy to fix with surgery. talk to your vet. they can tell you if it would need surgery .
it is a very common thing.

Dogs are born with umbilical cords, that the mother chews off after birth. Some dogs ( mine included) get what is called an umbilical hernia. A weakening in the wall of the abdomen at the sight of where the belly button would be. Causing a bulge type lump. Mine had hers repaired when we had he spayed. It's easily repaired, and it should be fixed, as the area can grow larger, causing problems later on, like a big hernia.

Yes dogs did have umbilical cords, how else would they survive in the uterus without it supplying them with oxygen, nutrients and so forth.

The mother chews off the umbilical cord after she gives birth.

Hello the answer to your question is yes
I am a yorkie breeder and when the pups come out the mother will chew off the cord with very little cord remaining on the puppy.

Almost every mammal (I think the duck billed platypus may be the exception) has an umbilical cord.

Yes they do the mother will bite though the chord to get it unattached from the baby as soon as she has it if she does not do it you can separate the puppies from the bag that they are born with The mother will quite often eat this as well its normal for this to happen and has a lot of nutrients in it
