the felonies were both grand larceny, the first one resulted in prison time, the second one was probation...neither felonies involved violence or weapons.. i need to be able to travel in and out of canada and i wonder if anybody else has run into this and can give me some insight before i apply...thx...

You just need a proof of citizenship to obtain a US passport. However, if you do not provide your Social Security Number with your application, the Internal Revenue Service may impose a $500 penalty.

Whether you will obtain a visa depends on the consulate's decision.
