This is the story I got, it used to be against the "code" to take caffeine, but then the mormons bought stock in Coke and now soda is fine, but nothing containing caffeine that is brewed. If this code is about being healthy, they should put something in it about hamburger helper. The mormons I know eat processed food all of the time.

I am not a Mormon, but I have had friends who are. The Mormon religion does prohibit taking caffeine in any form. This includes coffee, tea, and yes - chocolate and hot chocolate! I would imagine that - as with any religion - there will be those that adhere strictly to the rules, and those that may bend the rules a bit-!!

AS A MORMON or as we like to be known ... Latter Day Saints, YES there are guidelines regarding the consumption of caffeine. These are not rules that MUST be followed. Everything in the LDS church is about agency, and you choose to follow the guidelines, or you choose not to follow them. Some follow certain guidelines, but choose not to follow others... some follow all the guidelines, and some don't follow them at all. It is like any other religion i guess. I know many Catholics and Anglicans and so on, that believe in their religion, but either choose not to follow it or have difficultly following it. Same goes here. So yes, you aren't supposed to drink caffeine which is found in coke, pepsi, tea and coffee, and so on, but some choose to do.... i hope this explains it.

Ah, it’s funny to read about the myths surrounding my faith. Pepsi-Cola and Coca-Cola are publicly-held companies, who must reveal to the public the name of any holder of a substantial block of their stock. The common myth that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints owns either company just ain’t so – as can be proven by anyone who cares to spend a few minutes searching public records. Those records are easily available online. The only holder of more than 5% of the shares of The Coca-Cola Company is Berkshire-Hathaway, owner of 200 million shares, or 8.5%
Faithful members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints generally do not use tobacco, or drink alcohol, coffee or tea. This is in obedience to a law of health given by revelation in 1833. Adherence to this law of health may partially explain why faithful members of the LDS church generally live ten years longer than average, and enjoy better health, too.
Some church members have reasoned that there is caffeine in coffee, so drinking caffeinated beverages may not be a good idea. That is NOT a commandment, merely a personal decision. I don’t drink caffeinated beverages, but that’s because it gives me bad headaches – a common symptom of caffeine withdrawal.

My close cousins were raised mormon and I learned a few things on accident hanging out with them.
Caffeine is not against the mormon code ...per say. Drinking caffeine and alcohol and buying things on sunday will not condemn their soul to hell if they partake of the practice. It is, however, advised against much like in other moral motivated religions.
It's simular to a methodists adhereing to moderation and not out and out verboden. *cheesy grin*

Yes. Mormons aren't allowed to use caffeine because it makes them ramble to the point where they seem like drugged out freaks. That's bad for business

It is against the Mormon Church to be online asking questions and cavorting with the perverts and Jezabelles.Yea,caffeine is probably on the list too.It is best to do without it all and live off of THE WORD.The hunger pangs will go away when delerium sets in from the lack of nourishment in THE WORD.Ha!Ha!But your spirit will be cool.
