You can purchase the equipment on line from a few places, a 'home hydrosol still' or 'distillation equipment'. They can be expensive. If you are handy and so inclined...you can probably make one if you understand the basic mechanism. It is rather simple, create steam and condense it. Dried plant material is stuffed into a pot, water is added. This container sits on the heat source. The lid allows the steam to escape in a manner that delivers it to another container. This second container cools the steam, the condensation is the hydrosol and the oil will float on the top. There are a few variations on the basic design. The condensation can happen in a tube that travels through cool water, or in a funnel shaped double walled piece that is filled with ice. Be aware of the pressure of the steam and gravity to move the condensation when thinking of how to do this.
Good luck!!

To make you own home made distilled water, just by a dehumidifier, and place it in the basement (if there is any). Collect the water in plastic bottles and you can even sell it for use on car batteries.

your not going to get lavender oil from a stove top still, you'll get a scented water or alcohol. the tempature will have to be much higher to get oils to vaporize and high tempatures in closed vessels just ain't safe, call a local chemistry professor he'll walk you through it.

You might want to check the internet for buying a pot still which can also be used for making hard liquor. I would image that kind of pot still will do just fine for you.
