Don't start off walking right away. Put her on her leash and tell her good puppy. Walk around the inside of your home and tell her good puppy. Always give her encouragement. Soon she'll
understand what you want her to do. Then take her outside for short walks and always give her encouragement. Dogs want to please their owners so they keep trying to do so. Just give your puppy a lot of love, patience and understanding.

start with just getting used to the collar. Do not pull the leash at first , this is confusing and frighning. Then attatch the leash but let her walk around and get used to it before trying to lead. If this is a young puppy, do not use a choke or pinch collar, it is not necessary. A lab is a very trainable dog and will most likely want to follow you. Make her exited about coming with you and she will follow.

I stole this from the Dog Whisperer... but it works on my 80 pound dog. Put the leash high up on the neck in a show lead. (I use a choker for my big guy but yours may be too small and delicate. Cesar uses a cheapo rope leash you can get for a buck or so, but I don't like that one seems dangerous in inexperienced hands.) The leash will be behind the ears and just under the jaw. It will keep your dogs head up and if you lead the head you lead the dog. You have to be VERY GENTLE with a 4 month old puppy so please watch the dog whisperer it is on all the time on the national geographic channel before you try it. Or better yet sign up for obdience classes.

When you train a puppy you have to let them know YOU'RE the boss. Start with a choker chain and everytime she gets out of line, pull it. It will break your heart but it has to be done. And make sure you stick to ONE side. Walk her on one side (opposite of the road) and don't change!!! Just keep that up and eventually she will listen, won't need a leash, and will alway be away from traffic.

Every time you go for a walk, when she doesn't want to follow you you could give her a doggie treat. But you want to be careful, do this for maybe a week and then ween here off this, because it might become habit. She might start to think, "oh well every time I stop, I'm going to get a treat." So then do it every other day if she hasn't stopped stopping... one day carry treats and the next don't... hopefully by this time she will have stopped this annoying habit. But I always found treats work well with pets.
Good luck with your puppy, she sounds cute :)

She's a young pup. I don't know if you should get her a choke chain at that age - but it worked with my 6 month old lab when we got him. Also, you have to be consistent with your dog when you're training her. You need to reward good behavior and discipline bad behavior every single time - no matter what. You want the dog to listen - she must know that you will do what say every time you say it.

Also, when my lab was 6 mons right after I got him he wouldn't listen to me - so I bit him on the ear and he gave off a yelp and we were good from then on. He knew I was boss and not him. Labs are smart dogs (usually), you just have to work with her as consistently as you can.

Start with short walks. If you have acces to a older dog take it along, the puppy is sure to want to follow. Otherwise take it slow

put her on a lead wire " a wire attached at both end to a poll" like a clothes line. attach her Leach to it so she can run back and forth. After a couple of days doing this she will walk with you
