She waits until we come back inside and then runs to a corner and goes. I would really appreciate any good advice on what I should try. By the way she is going on 2 years old and it isn't getting better.

We do have several lights outside but unless I pick her up and carry her she won't even go into the yard she stays on the steps my other dog is from her litter and has no problem at night. Is this just a personality thing?

walk out in the dark with her. Spend some "fun" time in the dark with her. Shes probably paranoid that she cant see. once she learns the dark isnt scary with you, she will be more comfortable.

I had a dog that was the same way but he was an outside dog. When he was a puppy he was an inside dog but because he was part lab and part bull mastiff he was getting too big very quickly. At first he was fine, but one night I got home from work and he was on the front porch peeking through the slats in the railing. He was looking from my car lights to something in the yard, so I turned my car off the driveway into the yard and there was a large 8 point buck standing a few yards from the porch. My dog hadn't seen anything bigger than him other than humans so he didn't know what the H&LL this big thing was. After that he wouldn't leave the front porch once it was dark unless I escorted him out into the yard. He would even try to block our little inside dog from getting off the porch at night, it was kinda funny. So your dog might have had a run in with something.

maybe your dog has some sort of eye problem all dogs can see at night they have a little thing in the back of there eye that reflect light like a mirror that is what you see when you look at a dog at night and see that there eyes are really shinny or a scary color like red maybe there is something wrong with that part were it is not working right talk to your vet it can't hurt

Go out side with her and talk to her and reassure her. It is very helpfull to keep a pocket full of treats whe training. ONLY REWARD GOOD BEHAVIOR. Also you could try Crate training your dog for a while to help resolve this issue. Get a good vets advice also.
