Up to about fifty years ago, apples were kept all winter in barrels in the cellar...As long as they were in a cool dark place, with little humidity, they kept for weeks.
This evidently changed in the era of the supermarket.
But apples will still keep a long time...Either in the fridge, or as I said before, in a cool dark place.
Apples after several weeks may start to wrinkle...that is because they are starting to lose their water content...They don't look as nice, but they are still edible as long as they don't have brown soft spots on them...And are excellent for cooking at this point...to make an applesauce or pie.

Apples retain their flavor and crispness for several weeks in the refrigerator. After that, they become soft.

It depends if you keep them in room temperature or the fridge. If you put them in the fridge they won't ripe as fast, so they will last longer.

It depends. If it starts to get soft spots, it's time to throw it out. If the skin still feels firm and you cut it open and the flesh is still juicy and white, then it's good.
