the DHS doesn't work on house problems. they look at that as you bought it , they have a deal with it attitude. when it comes to a house problem. which isn't far. i agree. i am a family of 5 and well my husband makes less than you do. all we get is food stamps (250.00 a month) and the kids get medical. parents get sick and cant take proper care for the kids, but who suffers(the kids of course) see if there is a church that have people who attend that can help you fix something. DHS doesn't pay for anything unless it relates to food, medical, clothing or elderly care, ssi stuff. they have a fund to help utilities, but only when they chose. check with united way see what programs they have to help. see if you can get help from the problems and maybe they could right it off as a donated tax right off. dentists do that sometimes. if you own your own home see if your homeowners insurance has a program to improve the property. check with a bank about equity to fix the house

It almost sounds like you live in Alabama. it the same way here. You can't get any type of government assistance unless you are dirt poor and nearly living on the street.
Another suggestion would be to check with some of the churches in your area. Sometimes they have some type of assistance programs or counseling programs that they can get you involved with. Another program is called "Community Action Partnership" http://www.communityactionpartnership.com they can be a real help for people in your type of situation. I know that they have done alot of good down here, and you should definitely qualify.

Habitat for Humanity Detroit provides a "hand up", not a "hand out" to families in need in the city of Detroit. We offer our partner families an opportunity to help themselves, to own a decent, affordable home of their own, which they pay for and maintain.

Poor people don't have camcorders to replace...how much unnecessary crap do you buy? If you are not prepared to go out to work its your job to get your budget in order and make life within your budget workable.

Have you tried to get a job? Go to your local Unemployment Office, they can assist you in finding a job, so you can be self-sufficient. If you live near a Wal-Mart they are always hiring.
Good luck.
