I am looking for an easy way to cover faces to protect the guilty.

What are some easy ways, or free programs that can do this.

Easy way if you're in windows? Is probably just to open the picture in microsoft paint (under accessories in the start menu) and draw black boxes over the people you want to hide.

Well any long exposure (and the more light you have the shorter the exposure needs to be) with some movement in it will give a blur (that ghost like image). Anyway it depends alot on what you consider ghostlike, for instance if you would rather have the subject not moving, you can do a multiple exposure. Sadly the D40 isn't actually able to do multiple exposure's in camera. The closest you can get to them with a D40 is over-laying multiple images afterwards. I personally think the motion blur has more potential as ghostly, I mean ghosts just standing there isn't very interesting, is it? Anywway, to do it in camera I would suggest simply using longer exposures and motion to blur out the subject.

Load the picture in Photo Editor and either blur or paint over the face. Good luck
