Assuming that you and your girlfriend are visiting NYC for one day,
(1) One-day Fun Pass good for unlimited subway & bus rides at $7 ea. x 2 = $14. Subway to museum.
(2) Visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art (and/or the American Museum of Natural History) for donation of $1 ea. x 2 = $2 (Usually native New Yorkers know about Met/AMNH being built on public land).
(3) Lunch at McDonald's from $1 menu + medium soda. Cost $3.50 ea. x 2 = $7.
(4) Take subway (or bus) to Chinatown, and walk around Canal Street where you can buy souvenir. Allow $13. Buy 5 postcards for $1. Buy 4 stamps for 92 cents at either of 2 post offices. Buy a bag of 5 tangerines / apples or bag of grapes (p.m. snack) for $2. Walk north on Bway and browse in interesting stores. Continue to Greenwich Village and NYU campus. Check out the scene in Washington Square Park.
(5) Take bus (or subway) to mexican restaurant at 954 Second Ave (betw. 32nd/33rd Street). Ask for earlybird special (appetizer, burrito, dessert, alcoholic drink) -- $35 (includes tip) total.
(6) Take bus (or subway) to Port Authority or Penn Station. You and your girlfriend can admire the postcard that you didn't mail and think about the wonderful day in Manhattan.

Is the question what can you get with 75 dollars in new york city?......well, if that was the question...you can go to red lobster...with a friend..and have a nice dinner....or buy you a nice pair of shoes..
