God does not "order" people to do anything. He gave you free will to make your own decisions. He does not lead anyone to sin. We sin because we are weak and human. God may sometimes use our mistakes to teach us things but he does not lead us to sin in any way or for any reason. Satan may "lead" you by telling you it is what God wants you to do. But Satan is a liar.

No, because from the Bible we know God cannot lie.. and elsewhere it tells us that "God never causes what is bad" .. so sinning would be bad, therefore he wouldn't do that. An Almighty God could ALWAYS think of a better way to set off a chain of events than to force someone to sin.. it doesn't make sense.
Some people think Judas was used by God through his betraying Jesus.. but thats not even your question; God didn't MAKE Judas betray Jesus; Judas betrayed Jesus, and God USED that action made in Judas' free will to fulfill his purpose. There is a very fine line between the two.

The first thing that someone should be considering is whether the idea of sin is actually real.
If God is supposed to be perfect how could She have made anything or anyone that wasn't perfect.
Think about it. The idea of sin assumes certain things about God that seem highly unlikely.
First it assumes a God who is too incompetent to organize a simple educational field excursion and figure out a way to get all of the students home safely.
How likely is this that God would not be smart enough to come up with a plan for our salvation that is going to work?
It also assumes that God must have created us imperfect if we are sinners.
One might assume that God would be able to create someone perfect each and every time if he chose to. Assuming God is capable of this, then it follows logically that we must be perfect creations if we are actually creations of this perfect God.
Unless of course you are saying that God chose to create us imperfect.
If God created us imperfect then anything that may go wrong is Gods fault, not ours. This seems a bit illogical at best so I think that we need to assume that What God creates would have to be perfect.
If this is the case and Gods creations are perfect, then nothing that we can do could change what God created perfect and make it imperfect unless we think that we are more powerful than God is.
How likely is it that we the creation could be more powerful than the creator. I personally find this idea somewhat amusing, and a bit absurd.
Religion tells us that God is perfect. If this is true then it could hardly be logically for Gods creations to be considered to be anything less than perfect.
If this is the case then Nothing that we can ever do could possibly change this perfection that God willed, unless we were so powerful that our choices could override and change the will of God.
How likely is that????
Think about it.
The idea of sin is simple nonsense; a lie made up about God by religion.

If you want to cheat on your wife go ahead but don't blame God. If you want to leave your wife then it's your own doing don't blame God because you're tired of your wife. And don't blame God if you decide to steal something.
God has nothing to do with all your sins. It's your own doing of your sins. Stop blaming God for everything that you have committed yourself. Own up to your responsibilities buddy! Stop blaming God already. You should thank Him for everything you've got instead of blaming Him.
To fulfil or achieve anything good to happen in your life you have to create that yourself too. God's not going to spoon feed you to achieve success or fulfil whatever that necessity may be.
And stop blaming this so called current wife for keeping you back from your achievement. Would that achievement be another women? Stop blaming the poor wife too!

Good post! Actually for me it is a great question since you did use the words "appears to be" before sin. In my view many of those who did answer did not read your question except to see it as they wanted to see it to defend their God.
Those who in my view gave examples or said to read the bible if you are referring to the God of the Bible gave a good answer. I personally see that everyone and everything is a tool in the hands of My God and My God can and will order things to be done that many do insist is a sin. Remember each and every unique humankind has his/her own mind and thus may all have different standards as to what is and is not sin.
Many say to kill is sin. However God ordered many killings. God actually ordered [not in written word] and caused to be the killing of His own son Jesus if you can view it as I do. In my view He did it through Pilate. In my view God gave Mr Adam no option but to eat the fruit because it was God's will that it be done that way. No he did not order it to be done in written words but My God is in control in my view of everything except that one option in a choice th believe or not believe.
Please don't get too excited because I did say it was my view and I am a "NO", the only "NO" I do know. I do not ask other to see what I see or to accept what I see OK. I do not preach and I do not teach.
So to be simple I must say the answer is YES to your question because you did use the words "what appears to be" sin.
Your example was about leaving your wife. Where was the wife of Paul, did she die? Where was the wife of Peter especially as he was suppose to be the first Pope and a Pope can not have a wife today. Mark 1:30 says Peter had a wife. Please I did not say God did order Peter to leave her, I just say no account is given with her beside him. I am not trying to establish a new doctrine or be a crtitic of a doctrine OK.
Please do have a great day as now you have some idea of a "NO" if you did not know a "NO" before.

You wrote: "Does God sometimes order people to do what appears to be a sin?"
The answer is yes. But it obviously depends. The Lord commanded Abraham to kill his son, and just before Abraham did it, the Lord commanded him not to. It was just a test.
In another account, the Lord commanded Nephi to slay Laban in order to obtain the brass playes which contained the sacred writings of many prophets from the past. This account is recorded in the Book of Mormon. Nephi had initial problems with the prompting, however he was told that it was better for one man to perish (Laban) than for an entire nation (Nephi's people) to dwindle in unbelief because they did not have the scriptures with them.
However, I beleive these promptings are not common. For the most part, the Lord will not intervene in our lives, especially when it has to do with our answering to the accountability of our actions. So it takes some sober discernment to identify promptings such as this.
A person who has not received the Gift of the Holy Ghost by the laying on of hands by those who are authorized to perform the ordinances of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, will not receive such promptings. And you can take that to the bank.
There are good forces in the spiritual realm that work by order, and there are wicked forces in the spiritual realm that disguise themselves as good, and people who are not enlightened to identify the difference often will be caught away with the wrong powers and will suffer greatly for it.

The God of the Bible would. He ordered mass murder and theft of land and property. He killed newborn children to make a point to a king whom he had made stubborn. He even allowed his own (supposedly) innocent child to be killed for the sake of evil doers, when he obviously (being all powerful) could have helped those people in another way.

Many people have closed minded conceptions of God. Yes, God may want you to do things that are difficult or may to some seem immoral.
But as a vast general God is not going to ask you to do things outside of your moral comfort zone. Try to stay within the box, or at least close to it, and you are less likely to error into something that may not be Gods will at all.

luki,I would not second guess God on this sort of thing. All things ultimately work for good but few could discern it.,God uses what ever is expediant to serve his purpose. my advice ,leave such things to God. Such things happen because of karma, cause and effect, what you put out is what you get back. read "as a man thinketh" by james allen.
