Mormon "underwear" is generally called a "temple garment" because they start wearing them after attending the temple where they make sacred covenants with God. While they are pretty much ordinary (although very modest) underwear, they have on them special markings to remind the wearer of the covenants they have made. While the garments themselves are just ordinary fabric the idea is that remembering and keeping the covenants will cause members to live more righteous lives. Most people would say it is obedience to the commandments of God that sometimes miraculously protects members rather than the fabric itself. Mormons die like anyone else and if they are stupid or careless or if it is just "their time to go" then they will die regardless of whether they are wearing temple garments or not. The same goes for prayer shawls, yarmulkes, kufis, Catholic vestments, or other religious attire worn by any faith. A pretty comprehensive discussion of temple garments can be found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temple_garment

I THINK what you're talking about are the undergarments a Mormon receives when he goes to the mormon temple for the first time and receives his blessing (or whatever). He is then required to wear the undergarment for the rest of his life and it will supposedly protect them.
You can't buy the underwear, you need to receive it from the temple and it's difficult to receive permission as a mormon to visit the temple. You have to be "worthy" enough to be able to go to the temple. You have to jump through a lot of hoops.

Why do people want to pick on our garments. In order to get the garments you have to go through the Temple, in order to go through the Temple you have to be a MEMBER in good standing.

You can buy it only if you are a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints... you buy it at the Temple store.
