I'm considering moving to D.C. after I graduate next year. What is the job market like? Cost for renting an apartment?

The city's great, but living here's expensive. Many people take the train or Metro and live either in Maryland, Virginia, or even West Virginia (it's not that far and there's good rail connection). http://www.commuterpage.com/links/index.htm

If commuting's not your thing, prepare yourself for sticker shock on apartment rentals (unless you come from NY, Boston, or the Bay area). Here's a link to Craigs List to give you an idea. http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/apa/
As you can see, many people share apartments and houses.

There are a lot of tech jobs in Maryland and Northern Virginia, and they pay well. If you can afford to live here, you'll love it. Good luck!

Iive outside of DC in VA. Housing in this area is going to cost you quite a bit....bare minimum for the area to rent a one bedroom apartment is about $1000 a month. If you can get a government job here I'd say come. The traffic is insane. I love this area though despite the cost of living. Just remember the 3 richest counties in the US are in the DC area so don't expect it to be cheap.

Rental? Just buy and resell later. Anyone here see the When We Were Young show at the Phillips Collection in Washington DC?
