Only a close friend wouldn't date his friends ex. It engengers trust between two guys in an unspoken way. Most PEOPLE that want to date a friends ex are doing so out of a sense of competition and or a sense of inferiority with their friend. There is a saying: "It's better to regret something you've done than something you didn't do". Well, this situation is the exception to that rule.

Its common sense...
guys tend to be friends for a long time, and they value the friendship. It is unlikely that they would be willing to lose a long time trusted friendship over a girl when there are so many others out there... Why risk it?

There is the term "bros before hoes" and it can be true, but a typical guy would do it if he was lonely, horny, desperate, lazy, loser, jerk...you get the idea. If it was a big ugly breakup and lots of people know about it, then guys also might wanna stay away.

Yup, among us guys, it is one of the most important rules never to hit on, date, sleep with, or otherwise cavort with any of our friends x g-friends. To us it is a show of respect to our friends not to do this. It is also a judge of character to us because if a guy is going to be a slime enough to do that, what's to say he's not going to do the same with a current g-friend?
