1) the diastolic pressure refers to the peripheral resistance , so if the PR is high the DP is high too.Any way there are a lot of reasons that increase the peripheral resistance ( e.g. Atherosclerosis ) >

2) it is cosidered as a challenge because there is no medicine that decreases the diastolic pressure alone. So decreasing the systolic and diastolic pressures puts the patient in emergency .

3) MEN, may be because men have increased risk factors than women like obesity, fatty food, alcohol, smoking.

it is my opinion as medicine student

1) Blood volume may have increased (hence the need for diuretics) and as a result of starlings law of contraction the heart is forced to pump harder, in order to accommodate for differences in blood volume, causing ventricular hypertrophy as a long term effect.

2) Peripheral resistance increases due to narrowing of the arteries so the heart has to pump harder.

Getting the patient to consistently take the medication is a problem.

Not a physician though.

What is going on? The heart is having a hell of time getting key fluids through the body. That is all.

Its hard to treat with meds because we men dont seem to enjoy taking meds. Again, that is all.

No magic, no secret. If you have friends or relatives who have this problem, or you are trying to join the medical field, here is my advice; Often, men do not take care of themselves unless they are scared, dying, or fathers. And even those are not gauranteed reasons.

Well the blood vessels are constricted,.. the peipheral pressure is high,.. hence heart has to beat against a very high pressure,..it is really bad because try to imagine a water pump has to pump into a clogged pipe.
