1. Exercise: in the morning is best (not within a few hours of sleeping)
2. Eat you largest meal at lunch, and a smaller one for dinner.
3. Don't eat anything within two hours of bedtime.
4. Turn off the tv/computer at least 30mins before bed.
5. Create a bedtime routine ( like have some warm milk, then brush your teeth, then read, then go to bed).
6. Don't use your bedroom for anything other than sleeping (remove tv/computer, don't read or do work in there). Your body will learn that it is a sleep room, rather than for everything else.
7. Once you lie down, try some relaxation meditation - like the ones where you focus on relaxing your muscles, or if you are a visual person, like the tapes that walk you though your ideal location etc.
8. Don't go to bed until you are sleepy.
9. If you get restless legs, stretch the muscles in the legs (at least 60 seconds each) - like the ones where you push against the wall, and push your heels down towards the ground.
10. Don't drink any green or black tea or coffee in the afternoon or later.
11. Try not to eat anything that contains processed sugar (like cake, sugary cereals, pie, ice cream, candies, chocolate, and pop).
12. If you are feeling keyed up after 15 minutes in bed, get up and do something for a while then go back to bed. (like put on some laundry, or vaccume)

For one thing, don't drink caffeine (coffee, tea, coke) for at least six hours before going to bed. Really. It will keep you "up" if you take past late afternoon.
The warm milk doesn't work for me. And whatever you do, you shouldn't drink too soon before going to bed or else you will have to get up to go to the bathroom, and that will interrupt your sleep.
If you have a clock radio, set it for to go off an hour after you get in bed, and have it set for a classical music broadcast (if you get one), or anything that is light and relaxed.
The main key is not to be excited, so that's why you should have no caffeine products (including chocolate). Try to be calm and distract your mind with calming thoughts. Avoid any TV shows that have violence or action (CSI, thrillers, etc.). You will find that it might take a bit of time to get yourself accustomed to this, so don't give up! Be persistant. You will develop a pattern that will eventually work for you. Good luck.
Failing that, see your doctor. He might have other suggestions (meditation, etc.)
Regarding the suggestion about Benadryl ... yes that works. It is the same formula as Nytol, except it is about 1/2 the strength.

you can go to walmart or safeway and get some Melatonin in the vitamin/pill aisle. it is a hormone that we make naturally. start with a 1mg tablet. it should start to make you drowsy within an hour. if it doesn't work try 2 mg but don't exceed 3 mg or you may not be able to sleep. try drinking some warm milk or hot chocolate as well. eat a warm turkey sandwich, drink some chamomile tea. try getting a sound machine for your room; like ocean sounds, rain, or creeks. it will soothe your mind. you could also try taking some benedryl to help you sleep as well. though, it can be addictive, it does work. quit watching tv or doing anything on the computer for about an hour before you sleep as well. try reading, too. that always puts people to sleep

1. No caffeine after 10 a.m. - no coffee, no cola, nothing at all that contains caffeine.
2. Exercise during the day and do not lay about in the evening watching telly.
3. Eat healthy foods all the time.
4. Before bed, a mug of warm milk and a banana.
Good Luck!

mild stretching / relaxation exercises and deep breathing.
Learning how to sleep naturally is different for each person. So do some research, find a sleep doctor, keep a healthy lifestyle. I'm sure you'll discover it in no time.

Eggs with toast (mutually), bananas. Sugar received't help you sleep. Dim the lighting fixtures fixtures interior the domicile and quit observing television/pc a minimum of one million hour earlier you pass to sleep with a view to get your body waiting for mattress. also make confident that your mattress is an section that you sleep, no longer that you do an excellent variety of alternative issues.

Tylenol Sore Throat/cold medicine, It's a liquid and it's blue, I got it at cvs. I'm pretty sure I can't legally recommend that you abuse over the counter medication, but I can tell you that when I take it, I get unbelievably sleepy and even nyquil doesn't work on me.
And somebody else said benadryl, yes that works too.
