reveal that the other party was investigated? so that way no one is insulted and it is purely confidential? i don't think dating someone that you are doubtful to the point of getting a background check done on them is a good sign to be involved, you know when in doubt, leave it out....?

All I can say is be careful about who you meet on line. There are many nice people here but there can be liars and creeps...do not meet anyone on line....be careful.

Some sites do check to see if anyone is married or has a prison record but most don't. I think it's only safe not tasteless. You just don't know a person on line they could be anyone even if they are nice and well spoken. It's best to be safe than sorry.I know I have meet some very nice people on line and have been friends since for a long period of time but it takes time to know the real person and meeting in public face to face is even better.

The old fashioned way was that a gentleman didn't meet a young lady unless he had an introduction--that meant someone not only knew his name but vouched for him as a good person. (Although even knowing his real name is not a bad start!)

Then it used to be that a girl asked her friends and relations about a guy before she would go out with him--they would know someone who knew someone who knew him. What was he like in school? Did he do well at work? Much less does he already have a wife and kids!

Now you feel like you have to apologize about not wanting to go out with a perfect stranger?! You ever watch these true crime shows on tv?

Even though he's probably not an axe-murderer, there are basic things you want to know about him. You could wait until you're madly in love with him, you could wait until you're pregnant with a kid with him. Or you could begin by finding out simple things like whether he's been in jail, runs up traffic tickets or crediit card bills, or has children by former girlfriends/wives. Since this will cost you, I suppose you won't do it until there is at least some kernal of a relationship between you.

No I think a bckground check i a smart thing to do espically if there from a country known for scams. If there on the up and up then no worries just don't send any money. no matter what they say. Connecting singles .com has some links to do background checks

no, i don't think it's tasteless at all. it's your safety on the line. i don't think that the other party will ever know that they were investigated and you would definitely remain anonymous. here's a site my friend used. she was in the same position you're in and just wanted to be sure the guy was legit (he was).

Never hook up with someone you met online, never ever.

I don't care what kind of a background check they pass, frankly that just means that he didn't get caught yet.
