i've been building my credit only for about the past year, all of my payments have been on time, i am on my car loan but not the primary, my husband has more bills than me and misses more payments on his end of the deal, and i feel like this is hurting me too, i would like to take out a small loan to pay a few of our debts, but my credit is not good enough. i will not have a cosigner, any advice?

Let me give you some friendly woman to woman advice.. DO NOT PAY YOUR HUSBAND'S DEBTS. Items on his credit report should not be affecting your credit report.. only if you have JOINT accounts together. I'd advise keeping as much as you can separate.. at least until you've been married for 10 years. I repeat do NOT take out loans to pay HIS debts. He needs to pay his own Debts! What kind of decent man would let his wife get into debt to pay HIS debts? Think about!

Also, make sure that if you have credit cards, that they are not maxed out. They need to stay at 50% or above in available credit. For example if your credit limit is $1000, make sure that you always have more that $500 in available credit. Also if maybe you can get added to someones account as an authorized user and that person always pays on time, then this will be reflected on your credit as well. Again, make sure that they owe less than 50%.

If your husband has better credit then make him take out a loan for it since he cant make his payments on time.

Be sure the loans are paid first and on time. Utilities are not included in your credit report so if they are late your rating is not affected.

Your husbands bad choices could be hurting you too.
My best advice is to make sure all your bills are paid on time, no matter if they're his or yours and don't buy anything else on credit.
Once you get everything paid off, use your creditcards wisely. I use mine, but pay the bill in full every month. I just record them in my checkbook ledger and subtract them from my balance as if they're checks I wrote. This way when the bill comes I just pay it.

If your partner has a bad credit you should try to get the loan under your name only.Otherwise he will mess up your credit too.
