The Bible says that we'd be persecuted. Jesus Himself was persecuted. I've stopped caring if people like me.

It's NOT people attacking Christians -- they're attacking fundamentalists who concentrate on the ego version of god (judgement, hell, guilt, sin, punishment) and use these very same attributes (e.g. judgement, condemnation) against others which will invite counter-attack (neither is productive, of course). If the non-fundie christians who emphasize love and compassion were to dominate, things would be better. Otherwise, when people see the hate and attack associated with stem cells, gay marriage, agendas to push a christian theocracy, and marginalization of science (evolution), then one can't help but be critical. Let's hope that people like the Episcopalans' Bishop-elect (who accepts evolution and doesn't believe Jesus is the only way to god) become more vocal and give a fresher face to Christianity, just as we hope that the more moderate elements in Islam speak up and present a positive alternative to Islamic fundamentalism.

you christian fundies deserve every bit of the insults and bad mouths that others give you. come on your religion is the most hateful voilent and self centered religion on the planet. its bad enough that no christain even follows the teachings of christ which christianity is based on and if you ask me i think even jesus would be wanting to insult the fundies too. the hate that christianity has showed us in the past 2000 years makes me wonder why anyone would want to follow it.
christians even threaten many peoples lives on here over the years and i have seen some pretty hateful low life remarks come from the christian fundies. christians love to say they dont hate us non believers and then tell us we are not human and we are all evil.? i know every christian fundie lie and you just lied your self there. christians are the reason why america is such a bad country. christianity is the reason for the witch trails the holocaust and many many other blood sheds thru out history we as non believers have a brain and used our logic to know the bible is a lie and full of crap. grow up christianity is not a loving religion and peaceful when its not. christianity is going to fall you people lose 3.4 million followers a year and you think your religion is the biggest think again pagans out number christianity by far..

Why do people insult and make nasty comments about Atheism so much? It works both ways. And to answer your second question, some of you, religious people, actually hate atheists in fact in the Christians Holy Book, the Bible, it clearly states
"The fool has said in his heart, "There is no God "
They are corrupt, they have committed abominable deeds;
There is no one who does good."
Psalm 14:1
Well, could you please tell your God that we aren't that bad. He has offended me. But if he asks sincerely for forgiveness I will forgive him. In the meantime I'll just turn the other cheek.
I know this is going to make you mad at me. Probably some Christians will say that I took this out of context. Others will tell me that I am blind to the word of the Lord and that I could never understand it. You are therefore for obvious reasons insulting me by implying that I tried to defame your God and by telling me that I am unable to understand religion.
----------------------
Edit: Just to give you all an example of the attitudes that atheists find offensive
"I think people insult Christianity because they are afraid. They don't want to take the time to learn about it so they trash it. Poor souls." IrishKar
1- I had a religious upbringing and I have read the Bible many times trying to make sense of it. So I did make an effort to understand it and am not "afraid" of it. 2- I did take the time to "learn" it as i have stated before. 3- I am not a poor soul, I am quite happy. Thank you for your concern.

For one non-Christians consider anyone that would believe in Christ to be beyond stupid and worthy of ridicule. While the insults are hopefully as close to persecution that modern day Christians will see there is also the chance that we will very likely see physical torture and worse to maintain our Christian Witness in the years to come. The main reason though that people insult you and make fun of us is they not only consider us foolish and stupid for believing the way we do but at times we are also a threat to them. A threat because sometimes the Holy Spirit uses our testimony to bring conviction upon another and from experience we know conviction is not a pleasant process. There can be many reasons for the insults but wear them as a badge knowing that your Savior is real and the Holy Spirit within your body is also just as real and conforts you as a part of His ministry.

It goes every which way, I have seen just as many questions or comments about atheism or agnostics or muslims and all kinds of them. I am atheist and try not to offend, unless I see something offensive and if a little retaliation is bad then we are all that because I see all kinds of things on here that aren't appropriate but that is just the way people are. I would say if you don't like someones question or comment then report it, I really don't think this is going to do anything to solve that particular problem.

Well. People don't like being told they are going to hell. I as a child had nightmares for years, because I didn't think my parents were real Christians. Do you think that's something a child should suffer through? I've dealt with psychological trauma from this. Look at persecution of homesexuals! They're lives must be living hells. I want to thank the spirits who chose to come into this world as gay people. You are very courageous! Don't forget your message is one of love and to teach people acceptance. Really for being a forgiving religion, its very judgemental.

"CHRISTIANS ARE BEING PERSECUTED"
Ever hear the phrase, "You can dish it out, but you can't take it"? That's what's happening when Fundamentalists use this statement. They have been on the attack for years now, trying to deny rights to homosexuals, trying to outlaw abortions, trying to keep women from obtaining equal rights, and trying to impose their own morals - many of them non-biblical - on the rest of society. Non-Fundamentalists are finally fighting back by speaking out against their campaigns, their media onslaughts, and their mistaken notions of truth, and the Fundamentalists don't like it very much. They can dish it out, but they can't take it. So when people of good conscience stand up for their rights, Fundamentalists cry foul - they claim they are being persecuted.
Fundamentalists see this "persecution" as biblical proof of being on God's side. It's not. Their so-called persecution is merely the rest of society defending itself from their attacks. Their so-called persecution is merely being called to the carpet for their actions. Their so-called persecution comes in the form of editorials that don't paint them in a glowing light or legislation that goes against their made-truths. If they can't get their schools to allow them to pray to their God during class time, they claim they are being attacked. What would happen if Buddhists and Muslims tried to get the same special rights? Fundamentalists would be beside themselves in anger.
This is not the persecution mentioned in the Bible. The leaders of the Christian Coalition are not being hung on crosses (Philippians 2:8). The leaders of the Family Research Council are not being stoned to death (Acts 7:59). The leaders of Focus on the Family are not being thrown to the lions (Daniel 6:16). And yet these people have the gall to claim they are being persecuted in God's name. They are not. All they have to worry about is someone calling them bad names and denying them their request for favoritism.

It's wrong... but it goes both ways. Just look at all the questioners that start out by saying how crazy and stupid non-believers are. Christians by no means have the monopoly on being attacked on YA.

Christians have always been very destructive and violent people. Why would I condone such beliefs that lead to such behaviors? Those that believed as I do have been murdered by Christians throughout the ages.

It's the hypocracy. They turn to Christianity when it gets them what they want or makes them look good but ignore the values, morals, lessons and COMMANDMENTS (sorry, have to capitalize, creates awesome effect) written in the book they praise.
