i think the problem lies in the people who do the hiring , if in deed these workers you speak of do not have the required skills. what i cant figure out is if they dont have the skills then how do the employers make any money? and who do we blame for the skilled workers not trying to work for the same wages as the new unskilled? i can come from a lot of different angles on this subject because ive heard a lot of different yet valid points from all sides but the basics of the situation is this.... thats the way things are , right now, and until things change thats the way things are going to be. the real question is is what are we as a whole national community going to do to make sure these types of questions get answered in a way that is palatable to all workers involved in the AMERICAN workforce. sometimes i think we must be so far away from the ideals of our AMERICAN fore leaders that if we got back closer to those ideals that all these other situations will fix themselves. at least thats what i believe all TRUE AMERICAN PEOPLE should be hoping or praying for.

Illegal Mexican day workers are in no way the same level of even a high school kid. Many of them are illiterate and come from small towns where they have probably never even seen the typical tools contractors use today.

Do you honestly trust the work of someone who had minimal formal education, no previous experience in construction and is here temporarily, probably under an alias? Not to mention making a sub-standard wage.

We are greedy bastards. Dont let them come into our country with too much space anywhere. So much for land of the free and the home of the brave. We complain about them but yet again we are served by them day by day. If we were in Europe and life was a ***** cause you couldnt eat or have a home would you go to a treasure island? Yes you would, so you cant blame em.

That is a racist statement. How do you know they do not have the skills? Have you interviewed each and every one of them? Show proof. Back your stuff up. I really doubt the employers would hire unskilled workers because that would risk a lawsuit if those reffered to construction problems infact happened. I doubt they would be willing to risk getting sued just to shave a little on the wages they are paying out.

We will see construction problems in the near future. But then, we have always seen these problems. There is no more reason to trust a sub-contractor who hires foreign workers than there is to trust one that hires only citizens. The quality of the work has nothing to do with the nationality or skin color of the worker. It has everything to do with how well the worker was trained and how much money you are willing to pay for the job. "You get what you pay for." As long as citizens in our country believe they can get quality work for sub-quality cost, by hiring foreign workers, those foreign workers will show up and do the work. Because they compete with each other, just as they do with our country's workers, they will do the best job they can, given the time and tools and money they are given.

Do not trust a company, regardless of its appearance. Find out how certified or bonded it is. Get references to its previous customers. Check with the BBB and other sources. Before you give your money away to strangers, get to know them.

It's not that Americans can't do such jobs but it's easier for Hispanics to adapt to any sort of circumstance (specially uneducated ones). If you had a white person (no offense) trying to pick fruit, he would first have to put all the sun-screen on, get the appropiate clothes, use security gloves, etc.. Get what I'm saying?

How do you know who is skilled or who is not?
How do you know they are Mexican?
Your statement is like saying that all people with slanted eyes are from China and are communist. Just because someone speaks Spanish does not make them Mexican.
NO I am not a native American. My family came here from England in 1690, and they did not get permission from anyone to settle here.

No....it has nothing to do with legal or illegal....there are incompetent contractors everywhere and they are American and or illegal.....Truth be known, I have found many unethical contractors from this country ready to overcharge unsuspecting people....

Why would you say the workers aren't skilled. Mexico had houses and buildings as well. Someone had to build them and I doubt seriously that Americans traveled to Mexico just to build the buildings and get paid far less.

Don't houses get inspected before they can be sold? I wouldn't worry too much. Many union certfied workers mess stuff up too.
