I had a friend that went in to the Army and what I did was I got a box of envelopes, paper, a book of stamps, pens and pencils, just stuff like that. I read above and I like the Bible, and photo album and phone cards, all wonderful ideas. Make it like a care pack. Some things he will be able to take with him. Maybe you can call the recruiter's office and see if they can tell you if these things can go with him. I know anything you do get for him he's going to love because you are his sister and your love and thoughtfullness is the greatest gift for him.

when my bf left for the army i bought him a small prayer book that he could take with him. He can have personal items but not many so maybe you could make him a small photo album with pictures of your family and friends or something small like that. The best thing you can do for him though is to make sure you keep in contact with him while he's away. Write lots of letters, even if you don't have much to say, that's pretty much all they have to look foreward to when they are away except coming home. When he comes home for christmas maybe you could take him out somewhere to do something fun or get him a phone card. He'll probably get lots of time to call home when he's on his last week or so of training. Wish him good luck!

You could give him a special (maybe funny) book. All of the party guests could sign it and write messages. Anytime he misses everyone he can read their messages. And get one where it will take his mind off of war when hes not in battle. Novels like The Da Vinci Code and biographies of his favorite celebs signed by the people who love him will help him get through the war.

Buy him a journal and a nice pen to write in his new journal with. Include a picture of the people back home, or just a few special people, or just you two.

You know a good gift for that would be a cherished family photo. Maybe take him to walmart and get your pictures done. You are always allowed to take a pic with you and its something he can hold close to his heart always.

Write him a letter or a poem that he can fold up and take with him. When he homesick and far away, maybe that personal touch will help him through.
