Regardless of the faith of that retreat house or your faith, did you find the experience helpful ? Keep in mind that going off camping alone can be a retreat experience too. I am not speaking only to one faith. What did you find most restful about that experience?

I have done so but not in many years. Not since my sons were born. Unless of course you consider camping as a retreat.I think I will try to find the time though soon.

Retreat came to me. After Hurricane Katrina last year my husband and I were all alone because we didn't evacuate. Most everyone else was gone. I found the experience of subsistence living revitalized my spirituality. The very condition of being alive became so dear to me. So many were no longer alive. I didn't know where my daughter was and had to look for her for 3 days. That experience made me appreciate her so much. We 'enjoyed' a free retreat courtesy of 'Mother Nature'. I wouldn't trade it for the world. My entire community has been revitalized spiritually. We are left with some grief but it is quickly being resolved. The storm washed us clean of the inconsequential things of modern life.

I have been on several religious retreats as well as retreats to relax and think. In both cases, I had wonderful refreshing experiences. The most restful thing was going outdoors and looking at trees, hills, birds and water. I love the outdoors and feel very close to God and so thankful for the beautiful home he has given us.

I went to a retreat for writers and it was great. I loved the little town we were in and the workshop was wonderful. I met some nice people (it was all women!). I would also like to go on a spiritual retreat, but have not had the opportunity yet to do that.

absolutely. the point of a retreat is to retreat from the world that may bother you. so you go to a far far away place (ok, it doesn't even have to be far) and just think. when you have nothing else to do or worry about (school, work, etc) you can fully focus on God. it's best to go to places with a natural enviornment and just witness how amazing God is, and how he can create every little leaf or flower. or wherever you go, and whatever religion you are, it is nice alone time.

Our church has womens' retreats at their bible college a couple of times a year. It is a beautiful place. We worship the Lord, study the word, listen to women talk about their testimonies, explore our relationship with Jesus..I always come home feeling refreshed and new. It's lovely.

A mom can do this. Find a little corner, with good light, a pillow or a chair, and a pretty box to put your Bible, hymn book, maybe some other inspiring books, pictures or lists of people you pray for, writing paper, and a pen.

Retreat there, as often as you can, and train the kids to know it's where you go to be alone with God for a little while. And if they really want to be with Mommy, then fine. But tell them they have to be with God too, since Mom is with Him in her chair. It's really sweet to pray and sing to God with your little ones in your lap, teaching them the things of God. Maybe keep books written especially for children in the pretty box in your corner.

it gave me time to relax and put things in perspective in a calm environment so i could take my time and not be pressured like during the rest of life. It's a nice break from reality and helps to pump me up for what's to come.

I never have though I would love to so that I may be able to figure things out. It'll probably never happen for me though.
