I am having an issue. It's my mother. She NEVER has anything nice to say. Conversations end in tears...MINE. Tonight I mentioned I needed to drop my male friend's laundry to him (A LOAD OF FREAKIN TOWELS!!!) and my mother says "You should have a man like you for YOU, not what you DO for them". Trust! I am not the girl at school who sleeps with the football team so the guys will like her! Input please??

May I add... No. I don't do the team, it was just a loose reference of a 'type' of woman. A type I am not. And yes I do his laundry. We spend countless hours together. But it isn't all one sided. He gives as much as he gets... if not more.

well as a parent, I will tell you that your mother has your best interest s at heart.
Now as a child who does not always agree with her Mother, I will say this... I listen to every piece of advice that my mother gives me with an open mind... then I do what I think is best for me. It did take me a long time to get to the point where I stopped trying to change her mind. So give your mom some respect for her wisdom, then calmly state your thoughts and let it go
Example: Mom: You should have a man like you for YOU, not what you DO for them
You: You're absolutely right mom. My friend, who already likes me, was in a bind and needed my help
end of conversation.
Good luck,
BTW I'm thirty something and I still have a hard time talking with my mom when we disagree, but it does get easier

Mom is not saying it, but she had something really bad happen to her when she was younger. Trying to keep the same thing from happening to you. Be kind, at least you have someone who cares about you.
Need to find something the both of you can do together. I suggest both of you join a gym, such as curves. After a few sessions, you will see a different woman. And YOU will be different too.

omfg. That sounds EXACTLY like my mom :-|
erie.
I don't know what to say because my mom just started letting us know who she really is. all she talks about is her and to her it seems like yes, you have to be a dirty little tramp and sleep with the whole school before you can be cool. ugg. then she totally changes "what she says" to something totally different, IT IS SO ANNOYING!!!
anyways what I guess I'm trying to say is that most mothers are like that, they say what they think is best for you. Usually when you look back on what they said in a few years you will find that there is some truth to what they say. Just try and be understanding, because she's just doing what she think is best for you. And don't worry, YOU'RE NOT ALONE!

Male friend? Towels? Doing his laundry? Huh? Okay...unless he came over and did his laundry at your place. Sure, your mom is going to suspect something is happening. Parents have crazy imaginations. Maybe she just wants you to find someone or maybe heard someone say something and she is worried or upset. Have a chat with her.

It is ok!! Your mom is just worried about you. All moms want the best for there daughters and really don't want a man to take advantage of them. She is just worried.
Next time make up something that they are doing for you. (They are taking me to lunch ) or ( he is going to look at the brakes on my car for me) Then you won't be getting taken advantage of. You are doing a favor for a favor.
Just remember that she wouldn't say anything if she didn't care.

tell ur mom that your bf does just as much for you as you do for him and stop worrying about it , u can take care of yourself. and as far as never having anything nice to say , some mothers are just crotchety bitches like that and wont ever change , i think u should tell her as little info about you as you can possibly get away with , that way she has less negative stuff to say , ok , good luck on that

I know it sucks to have a medalling mother, but they always know us better than we think and they have more experience than we do. Listen to what she says. She probably has reasons for the things that she says even if they are not the things that you want to hear.

Your mom isn't being fair..just because you do some laundry for a guy doesn't mean you are scrubbing his floors ..It is only a kind gesture

I think she's worried about you. She doesn't want you to be taken advantage of, and she doesn't want you to get hurt. Just let her know that you're doing okay. And that you appreciate her concern. She's never going to stop worrying about you. I'm almost 30 and my mom makes me crazy still.
