This is not a school question it is one i came up with to try to figure out how to work the problem out. If someone would just show the work or how they came up with their answer it would help me out a lot.

Factor by grouping
x^2 - 7xy + 7ax - 49ay
= (x^2 - 7xy) + (7ax - 49ay)
From the first group you can factor an x and from the second group you can factor 7a.
= x(x-7y) + 7a(x-7y)
= (x-7y)(x+7a)

It may not be school work, but it probably fits homework help better than any other category I can think of.
