Are you connected to a server?
What window operating system are you using? 2000? ME?xp?98?
Have you installed the printer drivers?
What type of printer is it?
Really need more information to answer your question.

How are you trying to install it? What OS are you using?
Say you are on windows 2000 or XP, goto Control Panel, Printers, Add a Printer, (make sure you load your drivers before)..... or select a printer from CD (where your drivers are) and install, should not ask for server.....
Email me if you wish additional help........

Stuart answer is right. But if you already had your printer hooked up and working, but now get that message, unplug your printer from computer and from electricity. Wait a few moments and replug. Should work. That happens to mine occasionally. Know no reason why though.

Go to Settings - Control Panel - then Printers. See if your printer is listed. If it is not it needs to be re-installed. If this is a brand new problem sometimes simply re-booting cures it
