Einstein, Edison, Newton, Michelangelo, Da Vinci were theist. It´s very common within the want-to-be intelectual community to say they are atheist because that makes them different from all the rest of the people. And since they need something to hang on to, they say they are intelligent...and so, we are stupid. If it was for them we would be in the stone age.

So what does the teen rebellion thing have to do with the first part that was your question?
I wouldn't necessarily try to group rebellious teens who want to rebel against everything as necessarily being atheists. Most people are theists and chances are they still believe. It's a smaller percent that actually let it go.
So, again, what does this have to do with people saying theists are dumber? Are you trying to imply that because most supposed atheists you know of are one way then all atheists must be dumb rebellious teens? Your town is not every town. I am 27, was never much of the rebellious type, and a decent clean cut and moral woman. So I guess I don't much fit what you have decided an atheist is, huh? Maybe you should try a new town for a while.
Oh, and why I may personally feel that some theists are dumber...earlier I read people saying they believed their was no rain before the whole Noah's Ark deal...I mean, logically, how this planet works, that is a ridiculous notion and I am surprised people actually believe that.

I imagine that for some people, atheism is some front, however, you will find that atheists are usually not "emo, goth or punk teenagers", but rather ordinary people. I am in fact, the weirdest atheist I know, but I do not have purple hair, nor do I cut myself.
I really cannot imagine why some people would think that being an atheist is cool, other than the non-conformity if your family and friends are religious.
The rate of highly educated people also being atheists is much higher than the rate of non-educated people. I myself have an IQ in the 130's, in between genius and average, so I suppose I am a conformer to the intelligent atheist stereotype. If you would like to know anything else about my beliefs, feel free to email me.

The atheists who say that to the faithfuls faces very much fit into your stated categories, though I notice that the groups you name actually include some of the most intelligent people in a community. The highly intelligent often have a much harder time accepting what they must in order to fit in, because it just seems so stupid to them. Which leads to what looks like pointless rebellion from outside.
But that's off-topic. Religion is, at its core, based on accepting irrational statements without question. That sounds bad, but it is the best definition I have ever found for "faith". While the purest form of intelligence relies on questioning everything, no matter how self-evident it seems. That is actually the basic tenet of modern science. I think the conflict is obvious.
Not to say that faith and intelligence are mutually exclusive, I'm sure Marilyn Vos Savant could easily reconcile the two. But your average above-average intellect seems to more easily flow towards atheism than theism.

Well it is a proven fact that atheists are, in general, more intelligent than theists. But you are right, there seems to be an influx lately in atheists who are just atheists to seem cool. They don't know the real reasons why they should be an atheist. These people are almost as irrational as theists.

I am 48 and I know more atheist in my age group then believers. Most people that I know are very smart and are in upper management and are very sure of themselfs. It does seem to be the weak minded that are believers.
I don't want to say atheist are smarter people just stronger willed. What makes athesits seem smarter is they are more open minded and don't try to plan things around a god. They do new things and it works not trying to hang to the old ways.

Atheists, on average, have higher education levels than theists. Not to say that theists are morons, many very smart people are believers, but numbers wise, scientists, philosophers, nobel prize winning geniuses are far more likely to be atheists.

You are severely misinformed. Most Atheists are not "rebelling" against anyone. I don't think I am more intelligent then theists. I really just don't care. I just want them to let me believe what I want.

i may be a punk atheist, but i don't do it to rebell! rebellion is completely pointless without a good reason behind it. i make my own desicions. i beleive in god, i just don't have a particular religon. the only thein that would REALLY piss off my parents would be satianism, and i have NO intrest in that
