jenwen--- I make my own dressing for potato salad. It goes like this 1/4 cup sweet pickle relish 1/4 cup sweet onion chopped fine 1/4 cup green olives stuffed with pimentos coarsely chopped. 1/4 cup yellow mustard all this mixed into 3/4 cup Mayo. Now here is the kicker !!! ( when you put this on a sandwich it is a sandwich spread . When you add boiled egg yolks mashed up and put back in the halved egg whites it is called deviled eggs. So I guess when you mix it into cubed boiled potatoes it is potato dressing which we like to call potato salad. You know mom's are usually right it seemes to come naturally. So far as I know there isn't a pre made dressing for potato salad as such.So to answer your question I THINK YOU BOTH ARE RIGHT It is a regular salad dressing turned into a potato salad dressing by adding a few more ingredients. I hope this saves your sanity LOL Just injoy your potato salad. jim b

Don't think I want to use it as strictly just a regular salad dressing, but everyone has their own taste. It may be good to some people. There is a seven layer salad w/lettuce, frozen peas, bacon bits etc...that it is used in & is very good that way. Other than that, I stick w/tuna or chicken salad, ham/bologna salad, potato salad, macaroni salad...things like that.

I've been known to mix Miracle Whip ( or something similar) with vinegar and oregano, then pour it over sliced cucumbers, onions and tomatoes. I suppose that would count as an actual 'salad dressing'. Otherwise, I mostly use Miracle Whip instead of mayonnaise on my cold cut sandwiches or in pasta or tuna salads.
