The causes are thought to be:
* Biological. Some people may be genetically vulnerable to developing bulimia. Young women with a biological sister or mother with an eating disorder are at higher risk, for example, suggesting a possible genetic link. Studies of twins also support that idea. However, it's not clear specifically how genetics plays a role, and the overall evidence of a genetic component may be weak. In addition, there's some evidence that serotonin, a naturally occurring brain chemical, may influence eating behaviors because of its connection to the regulation of food intake.
* Psychological. People with bulimia may have psychological and emotional characteristics that contribute to the disease. They may have low self-worth, for instance. They may have trouble controlling impulsive behaviors, managing their moods or expressing anger. The families of people with bulimia may tend to have more open conflicts, along with more criticism and unpredictability.
* Sociocultural. Modern Western culture often cultivates and reinforces a desire for thinness. The media are splashed with images of waif-like models and actors. Success and worth are often equated with being thin. Peer pressure may fuel this desire to be thin, particularly among young girls.

a person could have self esteem issues, such as someone telling them they look fat when really they are not and that person made fun of being fat, he or she "believe" they are fat and they feel bad about themselves,so they let those negative thoughts take over and they binge, eat or purge it back up and bulimia is a dangerous illness. Purging food back up into your mouth and throwing it up can cause physical problems like tearing up your esophagus because the stomach acid comes up with the food and can damage the organ if done periodically.
Bulimia can sometimes be genetic related, some families have mental illnesses that run in the family, if you have a family member or have a family history that has an eating disorder, he or she could be at risk

Its both. The person has an emotional issue which leads to think that they are fat. Therefore bulimia comes into the picture. Whoever looks at bulimia for a solution, obviously has a serious problem..& needs help!

Because their husbands/BF's, either tell them they are fat, or they look at porno and the woman thinks this is what he want's them to look like. It's really more of an emotional/control issue. I know this very well...

weakness.
they eat to their hearts content.. but fear the repercussions of weight gain so they throw up.
and allot of it has to do with emotions, stress, control, self worth, .. things they need validation for. food is comfort and vomiting is control.
