It's not how many beers per week you drink. You are an alcoholic when you NEED to drink to "function". Also if drinking interferes with your family, your work and/or your interpersonal relationships, your probably an alcholic.

that's not right dude, you cant really tell a person how many drinks it will take for a person to BECOME an alcoholic. Watch for these signs to tell if your having an alcohol problem:

1. drink massive amounts and black out
2. find you cant function without alcohol : hands shaking
3. drink at work
4. have to drink when you first get out of bed to feel normal
5. find yourself waiting and watching the clock to drink all the time
6. get very irritable when you don't drink

I'm sure i have missed some other signs, but these are the major ones, no one can tell you how many beers in a day (week) will make you an alcoholic though, seriously. Its also a plus for you if there is no history of alcoholism in your family. You are less likely to end up an alcoholic, but it could still happen.

Well, first of all if you are asking this Question, maybe you need to look at your drinking habits no matter what anyone says.
My girlfriend are sitting here with a few drinks in us> I am 33 and know I am an alcholic a drunk is just someone who thinks a six pack is a support system. I worked, I did my daily activities, and people di dnot even know I drank. My drinking habits have changed as I ahve changed, but one thing reains the same. Can you put the drink down?!!! I know and all alcholics know, one drink is too many for us. It is my choice reather or not I wanna change, but I know my disease and I know I can not have opne drink with the "boys", or a social drink, I have one it leads to more, and another one, and the favortie sayiong I am known ofr let me jsut have one more and Il go, I neva go untill bar closed or no more alchol then wonder how many hours I have to wait to get next drink. Yes somedays I have to wake up wioth a drink other dauys I can stay away , but its jsut due time before, I need a drink or feel i do, and then if i dont get drunbk i chase the drunk.
If you feel this or cant put one beer down look for help for yourself. Noone can say your an alcholic, unless you feel you ahve a problem. YOU hun are the one who has to decide, if you are asking this Q I have to beleive you are poking fun, or you realy feel you ahve a problem but do not want to loose your best freind. n I wil never forget the very first time I went sober because I wanted to, I cried and creid. WHY, not because i hurt physically, or thaught I couldnt get drunk, NO, It was because I was putting my best freind on back burner, and saying I do not wnat you as a freind anymore. My drink always helped me loose the pain, was always there when needed, made me laugh, made me cry. Anyway, I am going on, I am an alcholic that chose to take her freind back, even though I know the saying its never under control I tell myself it is right now. If ever this is a serious thing and You need a reader(LOL) please feel free I wil help you steer in right direction, even though I am no mentor and umm whatever, about being sober I am not, but hope and pray foir everyoine that wants to face that battle. If this was a joke, then so be it I let my hear t out ot a frigging Idiot nothing new. I wish you luck either way.

The definition of being an alcoholic is when it causes you problems in your life, not by how many drinks you have in a week.

Alcoholism cannot be quantified that way under any circumstances. There is no set number--alcoholism is a disease about how the drug affects the mind and behavior of the person taking it, rather than the quantity consumed.

it dosent matter how many anyone drinks. it all comes down to a dependency issue. when things in your life start to change because of alcohol. then there is a problem.
