If you were a true atheist, you'd do it because you know it doesn't matter anyway. If you are someone claiming to be an atheist because you have issues but you're really not an atheist, you'll make a big stink about it, because you don't "believe" in God, which IS a belief. A real atheist would just see the whole thing as folly and just go along with it because it's easier.

while such a thing may not be sacred to you, the idea is that you'
re being asked to make an oath that most people would find unconsionable to break.
however, not having tried this i think i can safely say that you would be whisked away to eternal torment in a puff of sulpher smoke like any other liars, you heathen bastard!

Tell whomever is administering the oath that swearing on a Bible conflicts with your lack of religious persuation. They will make you affirm that you will tell the truth.

If your an atheist, why would it bother you? I'd think you would just be sort of indifferent. But to answer your question you don't have to swear on a bible. You can just swear on your oath.

It's just a stupid fomality.
I guess I'd do it, it's not like the bible burns our hands.
I even have one around here somewhere.
I was going to read it for $hits and giggles, but it got too boring around the ( 4th book ) I think it was numbers.

The Bible says not to swear on anything. This has become part of our culture with no real basis.

if you don't believe in God or the Bible, you are just swearing to tell the truth, if you get caught lying you just committed perjury and can be prosecuted.
