First off, take a stool sample to your veterinarian to be sure that they are tape worms and not hook or round worms. The type of medication you give your dog is going to depend on the exact type of worm.
Once you determine what type of worm you pup has, your vet will be able to give you medication. If you'd rather buy your drugs over the counter, they are available at most specialty pet stores as well in the health department.
The most popular over-the-counter dewormer is called D-Worm and comes in non-prescription tablets. Here is some info regarding this product:
Generic Name
Praziquantel (pra-zee-kwan’-tell)

Droncit Canine Cestocide Tablets (Bayer), Droncit Feline Cestocide Tablets (Bayer), Tape Worm Tabs Canine (Tradewinds), Tape Worm Tabs Feline (Tradewinds)
What is this medication used for?
Praziquantel is an anthelminthic (dewormer) used to treat tapeworm (cestode) infestation.
Availability?
Praziquantel is available as prescription tablets and injectable (Droncit) and non-prescription tablets (Tape Worm Tabs).
How this medicine should be used?

How should I store this medication?
Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed. Store at room temperature, away from excess heat, light and moisture. Do not store in the bathroom. Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed. Keep out of the reach of children and pets.

you can go to the vet and they can give you the meds. If the vet knows you well then all you have to do is go there and tell them your dog has tapeworms. Some will make you bring them in so they can get a fecal exam and make sure it don't have anymore kinds of worms. If your dog is prone to getting tape worms then this means you have a flea problem and need to try to get rid of the fleas. the tape worm comes from a flea that the dog has eaten.
tape worms you will find little rice grain looking things around the dogs butt or where it sleeps normally.

A different medicine is needed for different worms. Collect a sample of your dog's stool or vomit and take it to your vet.
If it is tapeworms you suspect, you will still need to get a perscription from the vet.

The vet will give you a pill of a drug called "Praziquantel". It is cheap and will cost you about $12 at the most or under.
You can also buy a product called "Tradewinds Tape Wormer" but it is more expensive and does contain praziquantel, but what you'll get from your vet is better and cheaper.

That's a good question. Tapeworms can't talk, so it's hard to figure out what kind of treats they like. I would guess that they would be into marshmallows and baked beans.

PetSmart sells medicine and one of their associates can help you with that. Or, alternatively, you can take your dog to a vet for an exam and ask him about this. Vets can give your pet medicine to prevent heartworm, etc. so it is a good idea to see one. Good luck.

Your dog needs a vet's treatment. Dogs can transmit tape worms to humans.

You can't get over the counter meds that will work on tape worm. It is prescribed by a vet only.
So take your dog to the Dr. :-)

take it to the vet!! it probably has round worms and hook worms too. almost all puppies and kittens have worms. dogs get tape worms from fleas, all they have to do is eat one flea and they get tapeworms. i would get frontline or advantix to control the fleas.
