I am interested in an old car on eBay but whats throwing me is that the seller says the title (that he has in possession) is 250.00 more.
I suppose he could have just added that much on the car though. But is it legal to sell titles separately?

to have a car without a title would make it worthless (as a part car only) you would need a title to be able to register it anywheres...

this is fishy... ask for the vin number and have it run by the police..

I think he doesn't have the title but he can get it (some storage yeards can get title to a car if the customer never comes and gets it after being in storage for a long time)

No, the title CANNOT be sold separately, the title is assigned to the car, it goes with the car upon sale BY LAW. You need to get as much info about the seller as you can and have this investigated. I smell something fishy about what he is telling you. What that person is doing is ILLEGAL. You need to report him to ebay as well.

I don't know, Richard...sounds a bit fishy to me! Maybe the car is stolen. Think about it...when you buy a new car from a dealer, you don't pay extra for the title. Look at this person's feedback rating...how long has he been selling on ebay? Hope ya don't get screwed.

Sounds like the seller wants to transfer the title to your name before releasing the car to you. Is this seller a car dealer?

The fee sounds high.

The title goes with the car. You cannot sell them seperately. Might be one of those Katrina cars. The cars that got damaged in the hurricane. Heard many stories about them. Be careful.

no it is not - the title is assigned to the vehicle. if you take possession of the car without the title he can report it stolen, have his car back and your cash and you will be up a creek without a paddle. report his practices to e-bay

No. The car is stolen or junked. This is clearly a scam.

legal, yes, but it raises questions; also, since he's not selling a "complete" vehicle, this could violate eBay's TOS
