My ex husbands grandmother recently passed away. I am not on very good terms with his parents since I am the one who wanted the divorce. Would it be proper to send his parents a sympathy card?

It is never bad etiquette to express your sympathy for someone else.
Send a nice card, and put in a personal note saying something like,"despite our differences, I know you are missing your mother, and wish for you whatever gives you peace and eases your pain."
There is a wonderful card out there, if you can find it, that says-
Perhaps
they are not
the stars
but rather openings
in Heaven
where the love
of our lost ones
pours through
and shines down
upon us
to let us know
they are
happy.

I would send the card, but don't put a lengthy personal message. You wouldn't want to dredge up feelings of animosity. I'm sure they will appreciate the thought.

By all means send the card. If you don't send it they will dislike you even more. Better to have them reject the card and write "refused" on it than not to send anything.

of course u should send them a card it would be rude not to one has nothing to do with the other situation and u will be doing the right thing and being the bigger person.

Sure. It's a nice thing to do. You may not get a response from them but that's okay. That's not why you're sending it anyway.

I'm sure they'd appreciate the kind gesture, but I wouldn't write a long letter or note inside, just a short note and sign it.
