I want to start fresh, and don't want the opinions of a previous inexperienced therapist to affect the sessions I may soon begin with another therapist. I will eventually reveal the above, but I want the therapist to first get to know me as an individual.

No. In fact, your new therapist is not permitted to contact your former therapist without your express written consent. Speaking with her about your privacy rights might be reassuring.

And don't be afraid to tell her this directly! It would be helpful for her to know how you feel, and she needs to respect your wishes.

Quite often, I do NOT speak with my patients former therapist. I also like to get to know each new patient without being influenced by someone else's opinion.

Good luck with your new therapist!

Nope... You dont have to say a word... I would mention yes you have tried it before but you didn't feel that you benefitted from it, and that the therapist you had seen previously really didn't specialize in your "needs". If he/she asks for location and name, just simply say " I actually don't have that information with me right now, and I don't like to look at the past, lets move on, shall we!"... That might throw em a curve ball... hahah... anyways seriuously no... it's not their business... and weve all goofed up, anddddd each therapist has their own opinion...
they either love ya or hate ya.... most love ya... thats why they charge like $2.00/minute! $1.00/30 seconds... $.50/15 seconds..... $.25/7 seconds.... 3 cents a second... :-)... Hope u aren't being treated for anxiety, and that u have some terrific insurance.... Lemme know how it goes! Everyone I know who goes to a therapist, cries their eyes out... hahahahah... so take extra kleenex :-P!

No there is no requirement. I would be up front about a previous bad experience though. Just to be fair to the new therapist.
