The problem with your ex is not your poor dog's fault. Think about it. How would you take it if someone decided to call you by another name at you age? Get over yourself. It's just a name to you, but it's your dog's connection to you.

dogs who are taken into the animal shelter as strays are given new names either at the shelter or by the people who adopt them,or both if the adoptee doesn't like the shelter name, dont you think these dogs once started out with a name

Just pick a name that sounds similar or ends the same with same amount of syllables. The dog responds to your energy, I think it would traumatize more if you cried evrytime you call her! Good luck.

This probably isn't the case for you, yet my mom has a dogs who became wonderful as quickly as we first have been given her, then grew to become progressively extra aggressive in the direction of different dogs and a few human beings. It grew to become noticable to us as quickly as I have been given my dogs. grew to become out, she had a bad the tooth which became pulled and he or she is now like a her previous self - exciting loving.

if your parents changed your name at an age where you were still living at home would you care if they called you by your sibling's name? Would it give you a complex?

Actually, it's now recommended that you change your dog's name .. it gives them a sense of a "new beginning" and helps them to understand this is a new home etc. I applaud you for taking in an older pet :-) KUDOS to you :-)
