They may just be amused at the reaction they're getting.
When you stop giving them amusement by answering with love, kindness, and truth ... well, they usually get boarded and find new amusements.

I think one of you, is as bad as the other. What has he done that you haven't done? He's taken a shot at your character, you've just done the same to him. Sometime "we" should take a look in the mirror, before looking at someone else.
