Although they both serve the same basic function in counseling people on healthy eating habits; a dietitian is licensed and has to have a bachelors degree in dietics while a nutritionist is certified and may have done their study outside a collegiate environment. Usually a dietitian can do more clinical work as with a person with specific medical conditions. A nutritionist usually focuses on general advice and would not work in a clinical setting such as a hospital or medical clinic.
